Kienan is an Academic Lead within the Northern Ireland Future Medicine Institute and Scientific Lead of the Belfast Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC), one of 17 adult early-phase cancer trials centres across the UK.
He leads a basic and translational research group within the JCRC focused on understanding cellular DNA damage response and repair systems, with particular emphasis on how defects in these pathways contribute to cancer development, progression, and response to treatment. His work spans translational cell biology, biomarker discovery, and early-stage drug development.
